Biden's Sticking Around
My Bet that Biden Will Remain on the Ticket
The debate was terrible.
If you were lucky enough to miss it, I envy you. It was more than an hour of watching two old men bicker at each other and not answer questions.
What’s come out on the other side is interesting, though.
The resolve of Democrats, including those in the Mainstream Media, is shaken. The Rolling Stones are talking about replacing Biden. The Atlantic is outright saying that he should step down. Many others are running hypotheticals about Biden being replaced.
WHOOOOOOOOOOOOO baby. That’s not good.
Part of the shock has to be the painful reality of the situation. Democrats and the MSM have spent years running defense for Biden’s mental condition. They claim he’s still sharp and tactful. They claim that he’s doing well for an octogenarian. Not only that, but they really believed that Biden was still in tip-top shape and could give a performance like he did against Paul Ryan in 2012.
That’s not at all what happened.
What makes it even worse is that people are saying this stuff out loud. The DNC and the MSM could’ve shut the fuck up and stuck with the “he’s sick” story. But people within the Democratic Party are coming out and saying, “Oh shit, that’s not good.” Not a good sign of what's going on behind the scenes.
Despite his and Trump’s terrible performances, it looks like we’re getting another rehash of 2020. Despite his rough night and despite the calls to step down, I’m going to bet Joe Biden and Kamala Harris are still on the ballot come November 8th. The alternative for the DNC is much worse.
Let’s start with the least complicated reason why and work our way up.
Joe Biden beat Donald Trump.
That’s one reason to stay with Joe. The propaganda lie that he’s totally fine, folks, please believe us, has been running for years now. It’s not going to stop. The DNC would be dumb to try and pull out another candidate and gamble on them when they already have a somewhat sure thing loaded.
Secondly, who and how? Gavin Newsome, although he rejected it outright after the debate, seems to be the popular choice. Bernie Sanders? There is no way in hell. According to MSN, a contested convention means another candidate has to convince 1,968 delegates to vote for them to be the new candidate. Long story short, it’s not happening. Even if the DNC wanted to organically, it could potentially split the party and pave the way for the last reason.
If the DNC abandons Biden, for whatever reason, they are fucked.
Goat fucked.
Fucked six ways from Sunday.
Fucked into the dirt.
If the DNC replaces Biden, it's an admittance that he’s not capable, and that will haunt them for decades. Everyone, from the higher echelons of the DNC to staffers to the MSM to boots on the ground Never Trumpers have been insisting for years now that Biden is fine. Biden's stepping down is an admittance that they were all wrong. It’s handing Trump a win on a silver platter. It’s handing the GOP wins for years after the fact. In terms of polls and campaigns, it's much better to let Biden run out another four years while bracing for the hell-fuck nightmare that would be a Harris administration.
The problem then compounds because Kamala Harris is deeply unpopular and unlikely to win a campaign.
It’s the same strategy the GOP is using, but with more tact and a winning candidate. The GOP has gleefully hitched their trailer to a losing candidate that’s poison to both the party and the electorate.
Here’s the worst reasoning of all. If both parties are putting everything on two old fuckers, the DNC has the winning strategy. They have the candidate who won in 2020. They have a candidate with a more successful administration. Their candidate isn’t a convicted felon. Historically low turnout, slim margins, low polling numbers—none of it matters. A win is a win in the eyes of the Duopoly.
The only hope Donald Trump has is doing something Biden can't do: picking a reasonable and popular VP. (*cough* Ben Carson *cough*) That may very well win the election. If these two old dirtbags can't make it, who do we have stepping in?
I hate it here sometimes.
Till next week.
Keeping Biden around, however, does give the lie to the idea that they believe Trump is an existential threat. Anyone who genuinely believes he is an existential threat to this country would not be running an obviously feeble, widely disliked 81-year-old.
There has not been a moment of this campaign where Biden hasn't been massively trailing essentially every other Democrat running in a statewide election this year. There is a huge universe of voters who are more than willing to vote for a liberal against Trump or a Trump-aligned candidate, but are turned off when that said liberal is a feeble 81-year-old.
When a “Generic Democrat” is polled against Donald Trump, they outrun Biden by staggering margins. When younger non-Biden Democrats are polled against Trump in states where they have name recognition, they outrun him by staggering margins. It is only when such Democrats are polled against Trump nationally, where they are not known, that they merely match his numbers. That is not exactly what you would expect to see if Biden were the strongest possible candidate.
Perhaps the people that don't want Biden to rerun should have said so prior to the primaries.
