You’re right about the dismal state of affairs, if the goal of education is to produce talented, well rounded people

I’m skeptical of that goal. Maybe the goal of the K-12 system is to provide subsidized or free childcare so parents can work. Maybe college is all signaling, all the time.

We all learn, on a lifelong basis. I am skeptical that any education system can last for the duration of a lifetime, nor should it

The goal of something is what it does. And right now K-12 education is just free childcare. Its depressing but I still think we have enough time to course correct.

Free childcare isn’t nothing. Childcare is back breaking for working parents. Getting a subsidized version is not nothing.

Rethinking how to make education work is a noble idea. How? Nothing works. Any education scholar can tell you that almost every idea that has been rigorously tried flops in randomized trials.

This is the driving logic behind UBI (universal basic income), which is that performance is fixed, education makes a trivial difference and therefore all of us should get a subsistence allowance.

Keep writing. Your voice is important and I like reading your work.

Oh yeah. Childcare is wicked expensive especially in certain cities. But parental investment is also super important in a kids educational success. I don't think there's a universal solution either. No one size fits all. Thank you for the compliment.
